COLLEGIATE (U23) PROGRAM

Vancouver Rowing Club's Collegiate (U23) Program is structured to provide an avenue and training opportunities to rowers over the age of 19 who enjoy a competetive environment and are looking to push themselves to attain personal goals.   Through sport science theories/applicatoins, the program offers a pathway to higher performance by developing the strength, fitness and skills necessary to compete at a higher level.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • To provide training and racing opportunities for rowers aged 19 and over.

  • To provide a venue for rowers in Vancouver during summer break, on gap year, not participating in a University Rowing Program, or currently enrolled in a college or university that does not have a rowing program.

  • To train crews to compete at the BC Championships, Royal Canadian Henley, Head of the Charles and other regattas (as agreed with the coaching team).

  • To provide training and development opportunities for athletes to compete at multiple levels - from peer University crews through to aspiring individuals trying out for BC Provincial and Canadian National teams.

  • The program is designed for individuals who want more of a challenge and who are able to train at a higher level to reach their goals.

WHAT TO WEAR

Wear bright colored clothing while you are on the water.   We share the waterway with many other users and we need to be as bright as possible to be seen!  Fabrics that should be worn include:  fleece, dryfit, poly-based fabric.   Please DO NOT wear cotton.   Cotton gets wet, sticks to skin and cools you off TOO rapidly!  You are required to carr y a whistle, life jacket and wear apopropriate clothing for the weather condidtions.  It is suggested to always carry water with you, especially during the summer season.

GETTING TO THE CLUB

If you are driving, we are the first building after you turn right into the park from Georgia Street or if you are taking the bus, you can get off at Georgia and Denman and walk five minutes to the club.   Please go to Translink for further bus information.
