The VRC racing experience is a fun filled one. We have two racing divisions-Division 1 and Divison 2. Division 2 is an open division designed to promote racing amongst cruising vessels and as an entry level division for those wanting to learn more about racing. Division 2 courses are usually reach-reach rather than the standard windward-leeward, so spinnakers are not often required. The VRC Yachting Section offers: - après-race socials, where the day's highlights are discussed over a cup of coffee or pint of beer.
- Food and Beverage Specials after the race or enjoy the regular menu items
- Race clinics, where a particular topic will be explained in detail (usually over a cup of coffee or pint of beer!)
- VRC Summer Regatta is the premier race event of the summer. The Summer Regatta begins on the Friday night with registration and skippers briefing. Two fabulous days of racing in the vicinity of English Bay. Saturday night is the dinner and dancing. Sunday evening is the “Burn Your Own" BBQ with the results presentation.
- A new race introduced in October 2007 is the Anvil Island Race. A great test of sailing skills and strategy to round Anvil Island and return to English bay in what could be adverse conditions.
Keep an eye on the website for the exact dates of these and other races. As members of BC Sailing and VARC, we are active in the entire Vancouver racing scene. So whether you are a serious racer, or just a weekend cruiser who is looking for a little friendly competition, you'll find something in the VRC Racing schedule to suit you. The VRC welcomes members of all other yacht clubs to participate in all of our racing events. Come on out and see what the Yachting Section of the VRC has to offer!
