The Yachting Section hosts a series of group boating rendezvous or Cruises on every long weekend of the year. We sail to a variety of beautiful destinations in Howe Sound and the Gulf Islands including some of the Club’s Outstations.

Each Cruise has a different theme and variety of group activities. They always include a social warmer happy hour, a grand feast, a great party, some awesome prizes to be won, a guitar sing along and lots of fun and laughs.

Many of our members feel that Cruises are the best club events. They are wonderfully relaxing and fun. The welcoming and comfortable atmosphere lends itself to easily meeting other members, making new friends or reuniting with old club buddies, all through our mutually shared passion for boating and socializing.

Cruises are run through the volunteer efforts of club members. There is an expectation that you volunteer to help out for some of the many light duties required in the preparation and running of these events. Duties include: shopping for food, liquor or prizes; assisting in the transportation of supplies and equipment to and from the club to our cruise destination; helping with setting up for parties and meals; the preparation and serving of food; the clearing, clean up and washing of dishes; helping with activities and events such as a golfing, dinghy races, volleyball, badminton, bache, cards, games, walks or hikes or restaurant dinner parties. You’ll find we have a lot of fun doing these things and a lovely sense of camaraderie develops through or interaction as a club.

Notification of upcoming Cruises including the event details are advertised a month in advance. Members receive an e-mail followed by a reminder e-mail a week prior to the event. Cruise notices are posted in the club house and dockside notice boards. They are also published in the club’s ROAR newsletter and posted under the Cruising heading of the Yachting Sections web page.

Easter Cruise and potluck at Snug Cove Marina on April 2nd thru 5th.  Saturday (April 3rd) is a “welcome” happy hour (BYOB.)  The club provides snacks, and we all contribute to dockside potluck appies.  Sunday night is the Easter dinner and for this night the club supplies a ham, snacks and a “very” limited supply of wine and beer.  Everyone brings a potluck entree or dessert to contribute to the dinner. Kids are encouraged to attend.  Please advise Norm Ellis (Cruising Officer) if you are bringing kids so he can give a “heads up” to the Easter Bunny.  Please bring your own plate/bowl/cutlery and something to put into your glass!

Join us for the Victoria Day at Silva Bay for the May long weekend – 21st to 24th. This is our annual Golf and Chilli cook-off and a gourmet’s delight.  Enter the golf tournament on Sat and Sun.  Join us for Saturday night happy hour.  Sunday is the Chilli Cook-Off and results of the Golf tournament.  The club provides the judges, fun, prizes and some wine and beer.  Everyone not cooking a chilli brings a side dish for the competition. Bring your own plate/bowl/cutlery and something to put into your glass! .

Canada Day Cruise.  This year July 1st falls on a Thursday, therefore our big Canada Day BBQ is on Saturday, July 3rd.   Friday night is a dockside happy hour with food supplied by you, the cruisers.  The club supplies a very limited amount of beer and wine, so BYOB also.   Saturday night (July 3rd) is our big barbeque in the park. Steak or salmon and corn on the cob are supplied by the club and cruisers are asked to bring a potluck side dish or dessert. Limited supply of beer and wine provided.  Pre-dinner games and activities for all ages, maybe even a dinghy race around noon time. For more information on ticket prices and their availability – check out the ROAR and posters around the club and dock closer to the event.

Labour Day at Montague Harbour is next on the agenda, with our Lamb and Pig Roast on September 4th to 6th, Labour Day weekend.  This is one of our best attended cruises, so tickets are always at a premium.  We start with a happy hour and potluck on Saturday (Sept 4th) at the “site” with a limited supply of wine and beer.  The main event is Sunday evening, with the club providing the entire dinner.  Volunteers are a MUST to make this event happen, so contact Norm Ellis to sign up for a job.  Again, only some wine and beer will be provided.  To keep clean-up and garbage to a minimum, please bring your own glass/plate/bowl/cutlery/ and something to put into your glass! For more information on ticket prices and their availability – check out the ROAR and posters around the club and dock closer to the event.    On Thanksgiving join us in Port Graves on Gambier Island. We have rented Camp Artaban and will be preparing and serving a fabulous candlelit turkey dinner in the dinning hall. Come up during the day and get cozy around the fireplace or join in on the card tournament after a lovely walk through the camps autumn forest.

Our final cruise of the season is Thanksgiving at Camp Artaban!  We rent the dining hall and dock space (first come first served) for this event. Mark the dates of October 8th to 11 in your calendar.  We have a potluck dinner on Saturday (Oct 9th) with the main event –Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday.  Volunteers are essential to making this event a success. For more information on ticket prices and their availability – check out the ROAR and posters around the club and dock closer to the event.

Last year was a great cruising season. Many of you volunteered at events and some of you at several. Each cruise takes organization and work and the more involved the easier it goes. If you’d like to volunteer either for the organizing beforehand of a particular event or onsite during it please let me know.
